Hard to believe it's been more than 30 years since the Dali retrospective at the Centre George Pompidou in Paris. Now that unique facility is again poised to become all-Dali, all the time, beginning in November. And a highly reliable source tells me Dali's extraordinary painting, "Tuna Fishing," will be there.
Which means I'll be there.
Perhaps that's the ultimate measure of a true Dali nut! Someone who'll fly across the world to see a single painting by the Catalan master. "Tuna Fishing" has long been on my bucket list. I can think of no other Dali that I simply must see in person before I make it to heaven. And it's going to be a little bit of heaven on earth for my wife and me -- our first time seeing what some consider Salvador Dali's greatest achievement at the easel.
And our first trip to Europe. ("Tuna Fishing" is in the collection of the Paul Ricard Foundation, Isle of Bendor, France. Copyright of Dali's works is held by the Fundacio Gala-Salvador Dali, Figueres, Spain. Images used here under journalistic fair use guidelines.)
